China's independently developed double-shield hard rock tunnel boring machine successfully put into use

On January 5, 2025, in Yichang City, Hubei Province, China, the first double-shield hard rock tunnel boring machine "Jianghan Ping'an" TBM of the Yangtze River to Hanjiang River Diversion Project was successfully launched. This is the largest diameter and most fully functional double-shield hard rock tunnel boring machine independently developed by China.

The excavation diameter of the "Jianghan Ping'an" TBM is 11.93 meters, the total length is about 180 meters, and the total weight of the whole machine is about 3,550 tons. It can realize the simultaneous excavation operation and segment installation during operation.
