Chinese company wins single shipbuilding order for 18 ships
On April 29, 2024, China State Shipbuilding Corporation will build 18 271,000 cubic meter ultra-large LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers for Qatar Energy Company. The signing ceremony was held in Beijing on April 29, setting a record for the world's largest single shipbuilding order.
The 271,000 cubic meter LNG carrier will be independently designed and built by Hudong-Zhonghua, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. It has a total length of 344 meters, a molded width of 53.6 meters, and a molded depth of 27.2 meters. It is the largest LNG carrier in the world and is larger than the conventional 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier. Ship carrying capacity increased by 57%.
