Sudden mountain torrents and mud-rock flow disaster in Kangding, Sichuan
The mountain torrent and mudslide disaster that occurred in Kangding, Sichuan, China in the early hours of Saturday (August 3, 2024) has caused 4 deaths and 23 people missing.
According to Xinhua News Agency, a major mountain torrent and mudslide disaster occurred in Ridi Village, Guza Town, Kangding City, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province at around 3:30 am on August 3, causing the collapse of the bridge between Ridi Tunnel 1 and Tunnel 2 on the Yakang Expressway Kangding to Luding section and the destruction of houses in Ridi Village, Guza Town, causing vehicles to fall and people to lose contact.
As of 11:00 p.m. on the 3rd, the mountain torrent and mudslide disaster had caused four deaths, 23 people to lose contact, 16 people to be sent to the hospital for treatment, four people have been discharged, and 12 people are not in danger of life in the hospital. Among them, four people were killed, 13 people lost contact, and 15 people were sent to the hospital for treatment in Ridi Village; the collapse of the bridge between the tunnels caused four vehicles to fall, one person was rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment, and 10 people lost contact.
At present, the local area is making every effort to organize search and rescue. A total of 1,448 personnel, 215 sets of vehicles and engineering equipment, 45 sets of communication equipment, more than 1,500 pieces of rescue equipment, three search and rescue dogs, one light helicopter and one large UAV have been dispatched.
