The heaviest rainstorm in 60 years hits Gansu
The heaviest rainfall this year has occurred in many parts of Gansu, China, resulting in one death, three people missing, and 192,500 people in seven cities and prefectures affected.
According to Xinhua News Agency on Friday (July 26, 2024), from Monday (22nd) to Wednesday (24th), Gansu Province has experienced the strongest precipitation process this year in Longdong, Longnan, Longzhong and other places in Gansu. Based on the number of days of regional rainstorms, the scope of impact and the average intensity, the Meteorological Bureau assessed the comprehensive intensity of this rainstorm process as extremely strong, which is the strongest regional rainstorm since 1961.
This regional rainstorm process caused different degrees of disasters in many cities and prefectures in Gansu. 192,500 people were affected in seven cities and prefectures including Gannan, Dingxi, Qingyang, Baiyin, Tianshui, Pingliang and Longnan. One person was killed in Tongwei County, Dingxi City, and three people were missing in Wudu District, Longnan City.
