OpenAI will ban Chinese developers from using its AI tools and software
OpenAI notified developers located in China via email that they will be banned from accessing OpenAI's tools and software starting July 9, 2024.
According to Bloomberg, screenshots circulated on social platforms on Tuesday (June 25, 2024), and emails showed that OpenAI sent notifications to developers in multiple locations.
OpenAI said that from July 9, APIs from non-supported countries and regions will be blocked. If affected organizations want to continue using OpenAI's services, they must access them in supported countries or regions.
Currently, the US government is exerting increasing pressure to curb China's acquisition of advanced AI technology. Although China is not among the countries officially supported by OpenAI, many developers obtain related tools through VPNs or other channels.
