A pavilion at a park in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China collapsed due to a lightning strike on Sunday (August 11, 2024), killing six people and injuring 10.
According to the report of the Changzhou Economic Development Zone Management Committee, the accident occurred at 8:36 pm on August 11. Hengshanqiao Town in Changzhou Economic Development Zone encountered severe convective weather. Lightning caused the pavilion in Fangmaoshan Park to collapse, and people who were hiding from the rain were trapped in the pavilion. After the incident, the public security, emergency, fire, health and other departments at both the municipal and district levels carried out rescue and disposal with all their strength. The search and rescue work has been completed.
It is understood that six seriously injured people died after all-out rescue efforts, and the remaining 10 people are in stable condition. Special personnel have been arranged to comfort their families and the injured.
