A container on a cargo ship exploded at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang, China on Friday (August 9, 2024). No casualties have been reported so far.

According to China Central Television News, a container ship docked at the Beilun Port Container Terminal of Ningbo Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang Province had an accident on Friday afternoon. It was initially judged that the container on the ship exploded.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port is the world's first major port with an annual cargo throughput exceeding 1 billion tons. It is also an important container ocean trunk port in China, the largest iron ore transshipment base and crude oil transshipment base in China, an important domestic liquid chemical storage and transportation base, and an important coal and grain storage and transportation base in East China. It is one of China's main hub ports.
