Guangdong Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment Detector

According to CCTV News, with the installation of the last photomultiplier tube module, the main body of the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment detector in Guangdong, China was completed today (November 20, 2024).

The Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment Large Scientific Facility is a giant laboratory built by the scientific research team 700 meters underground in Jiangmen, Guangdong over many years. The device takes the measurement of the neutrino mass order as its primary scientific goal and conducts many other major frontier research. Its core detection equipment is located in the center of a 44-meter-deep pool in the experimental hall 700 meters underground. It consists of a stainless steel mesh shell with a diameter of 41 meters, a plexiglass ball with a diameter of 35.4 meters, and 20,000 tons of liquid scintillator, 45,000 photomultiplier tubes and other key components.
