Two ships collide in waters off Weihai, Shandong

At approximately 5:00 AM on November 9, 2025, the Weihai Maritime Search and Rescue Center in Shandong Province received a report that a Shanghai-registered merchant ship and a Liaoning-registered fishing vessel collided approximately 3.5 nautical miles east of Chengshantou. The fishing vessel sank, while the merchant ship was in normal condition.

An investigation revealed that the fishing vessel had 9 people registered at the time of departure. The Weihai Maritime Search and Rescue Center immediately coordinated with relevant parties, organizing professional rescue vessels, rescue helicopters, and nearby merchant and fishing vessels to conduct search and rescue operations. As of 2:00 PM on November 9, one person had been rescued and was in stable condition. Eight people remain missing, and the search and rescue operation is still underway.
