On December 8, 2025, the IMF Shanghai Center officially opened. This is the International Monetary Fund's newly established regional center globally, and after its establishment, it will strengthen the communication and cooperation between the IMF and economic entities in the Asia-Pacific region.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that the Shanghai Center will serve as an important hub to promote research in relevant policy areas for emerging markets and middle-income countries, deepening dialogue and exchanges between the IMF and member countries in the region, regional institutions, and other stakeholders.
