According to Xinhua News Agency, around 14:00 on February 18, 2026, a fire and explosion occurred at a fireworks retail store in Zhengji Town, Yicheng City, Xiangyang City, Hubei Province. The blaze covered an area of approximately 50 square meters and has resulted in 12 deaths. The cause of the explosion is currently under further investigation.

A press conference regarding the fireworks explosion in Yicheng City, Xiangyang, Hubei Province, was held on the morning of February 19, 2026.

The conference reported that at 14:24 on February 18, a deflagration accident involving fireworks occurred at the Qianhe Department Store, located at No. 12, Group 4, Jinpu Village, Zhengji Town, Yicheng City, Xiangyang, Hubei. Upon receiving the alert, rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 14:33 and immediately commenced firefighting efforts, search and rescue operations, and site control. The visible flames at the scene were extinguished by 15:12.

Following comprehensive search and investigation, it was ultimately confirmed that the accident resulted in 12 fatalities, comprising 7 adults and 5 minors. The identities of all victims have been verified. Apart from the operator, Lin Moumou, the other 11 deceased were customers who had come to purchase fireworks. Among them, three were visitors to Zhengji from Chengdu, Sichuan; four were from Huji Town, Zhongxiang City; and four were local residents of Yicheng. Relevant information has been promptly communicated to the families, and efforts are actively being made to coordinate solutions to the practical difficulties they face.
