China to Conduct In-Orbit Upgrade of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System
According to the China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO), the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) will undergo an in-orbit upgrade in the near future to enhance service quality, involving optimization and adjustment of operational parameters for select satellites.
As a mature, fully functional, and high-performance global satellite navigation system, BDS currently maintains 50 satellites in orbit. The system delivers space signal accuracy better than 2 meters, global positioning accuracy better than 10 meters, velocity measurement accuracy better than 0.2 meters per second, and timing error under 20 nanoseconds. Through its Precise Point Positioning (PPP) service signal, BDS achieves horizontal positioning accuracy exceeding 0.3 meters and vertical accuracy surpassing 0.6 meters, further reinforcing its capabilities for high-precision applications worldwide.
