Alibaba’s DAMO Academy announced today the launch of the Xuantie C950, a new central processing unit (CPU) built on the open-source RISC-V architecture. According to a statement released by Alibaba, the C950 is optimized for cloud computing scenarios and allows customers to customize the chip based on specific inference workloads.

Developed over two years, the Xuantie C950 operates at a frequency of 3.2 GHz and achieves a single-core performance score exceeding 70 for the first time in the series. Its overall performance is more than triple that of its predecessor, the Xuantie C920.

The new processor natively supports confidential computing features, including secure isolation and data protection, and implements all mandatory and optional RISC-V extensions. Leveraging the open nature of the RISC-V ecosystem, the C950 integrates Alibaba’s self-developed AI acceleration engine and offers native support for large-scale models with hundreds of billions of parameters, such as Qwen3 and DeepSeek V3.
