The verdict was delivered by the Intermediate People's Court of Xinxiang City in Henan Province . Shi Yongxin, whose birth name is Liu Yingcheng, was convicted on four charges: embezzlement, misappropriation of funds, acceptance of bribes as a non-state functionary, and offering bribes .
The court found that between 2003 and 2025, Liu, while serving as abbot of Shaolin Temple and chairman of its affiliated charity foundation, embezzled over 131 million yuan (approximately 19.2 million U.S. dollars) of temple assets, either alone or in collusion with others .
