Due to heavy rainfall, communications in four villages in Jianchang County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province, China were cut off and more than 300 people were trapped.

According to Xinhua News Agency, heavy rainfall occurred in Jianchang County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province on Monday evening (August 19, 2024), causing the interruption of optical cables and the decommissioning of base stations. Communications in the county and Yangshuwan Township were affected and could only be communicated through satellite phones. Currently, communications in four villages are still interrupted.

The Liaoning Provincial Communications Administration immediately activated the emergency mechanism and launched a level 3 response to flood emergency communications support in Huludao. As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, the local communications industry has dispatched a total of 195 emergency communications support personnel, 78 emergency vehicles, 35 generators, 14 satellite phones, three high-throughput satellite portable base stations, and one cross-river cable laying drone.

Heavy rainfall also caused flash floods in some villages and towns in Jianchang County, Huludao City, and more than 300 disaster-stricken people were trapped. Local helicopters have been dispatched to urgently transfer the trapped people.
