China imports African sheep meat products for the first time
China imported mutton from the African island nation of Madagascar. This is the first time that China has imported mutton products from Africa.
According to Xinhua News Agency, a batch of frozen mutton produced in Madagascar arrived at the designated inspection site of Hunan Red Star Imported Meat on Sunday (September 8, 2024). The batch of goods totaled 50 pieces and more than 900 kilograms. The report said that this was the first batch of imported products after Madagascar mutton was allowed to enter China last year, and it was also the first time that China imported mutton products from Africa.
The person in charge of the importer Changsha Agricultural and Sideline Products Co., Ltd. said that Madagascar's mutton will be sold on many catering, supermarkets and other platforms in and outside Hunan Province.
