Potteries of Sanxingdui
The photo was taken at the Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Sichuan Province.
Sanxingdui pottery primarily consists of storage vessels, tablewares, drinking vessels, and cooking utensils. The typical vessel shapes include jar with small flat base, jar with pointed base, bird-featured spoon, pot with interlocking rim, high-stemmed dou vessel, and three-legged cooking vessel, which showcase distinct regional characteristics. The pottery is adorned with decorative elements such as cord patterns, square patterns, grid patterns, diamond patterns, circular patterns, paste on paste patterns, and rice grain patterns. Some pottery pieces feature animal-shaped decorations on their cover knobs, feet, and handles.
