The Chinese Consulate General in Düsseldorf, Germany, informed Xinhua News Agency on Thursday (November 20, 2025) that over a hundred Chinese participants attending the MEDICA 2025 trade fair in Düsseldorf since Monday (November 17) have exhibited symptoms of food poisoning.
Staff from the consulate's consular and overseas Chinese affairs department stated that preliminary investigations indicate the incident was caused by food safety issues with boxed meals supplied by a local Chinese restaurant. At least four individuals were hospitalized, but no severe injuries or fatalities have been reported. The consulate is still verifying the exact number of affected individuals, with initial estimates exceeding 100 people.
