Chinese Embassy in the United States: China has always opposed any form of smuggling activities
Regarding the issue of illegal Chinese immigrants smuggling into the United States, the Chinese Embassy in the United States stated that the Chinese government has always opposed any form of smuggling activities and firmly opposes US public opinion and politicians using the issue to smear China.
According to the website of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, a spokesman for the embassy said on Monday (May 13) that China’s position on illegal immigration is consistent and clear, and the Chinese government firmly opposes any form of smuggling activities.
The spokesman said that in recent years, China's law enforcement agencies have vigorously cracked down on illegal crimes that obstruct national (border) management, maintained a high-pressure stance against various smuggling organizations and criminals engaged in smuggling activities, and achieved remarkable results. At the same time, Chinese law enforcement agencies are cooperating with relevant countries to jointly crack down on cross-border smuggling activities, repatriate smugglers, and jointly maintain the order of international personnel exchanges.
The spokesperson said that it should be noted that the issue of illegal immigration is an international issue and requires cooperation from all parties involved. China firmly opposes US public opinion and politicians taking advantage of the situation to attack, smear and blame China. China is open to cooperation with the United States on the issue of repatriation of illegal immigrants. At the same time, the United States should also show sincerity, pay equal attention to China's concerns, and create a suitable atmosphere for relevant cooperation.
According to a Voice of America report on May 10, Beijing and Washington have resumed cooperation in repatriating Chinese immigrants illegally staying in the United States. Since the leaders of the two countries met in California at the end of last year, China and the United States are resuming and expanding contacts.
According to reports, since China suspended the above-mentioned cooperation in August 2022, the number of Chinese immigrants entering the United States illegally from Mexico has increased sharply. In 2023, U.S. border officials arrested more than 37,000 Chinese citizens at the southern border, 10 times the number in the previous year, further exacerbating tensions over immigration during the presidential election.
