The U.S. is expected to significantly increase tariffs on Chinese goods such as electric vehicles
This week, U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to double or triple tariffs on some Chinese goods, including electric vehicles.
Bloomberg reported on Sunday (May 12), citing people familiar with the matter, that Biden would announce the above measures at an event at the White House.
After nearly two years of review, Biden will raise or increase tariffs in key areas. People familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named, said the overall tariff on Chinese electric vehicles will be increased from 27.5% to 102.5%. Tariffs on other products in targeted industries will be doubled or tripled.
Biden and his staff have spent recent weeks finalizing the content of the measures, including which products to target and avoiding products that would boost U.S. economic growth, people familiar with the matter said. They make the final decision by consensus.
The White House has declined to comment on the tariff measures.
