In April, lottery sales in mainland China totaled RMB 55.457 billion, up 10.2% year-on-year. Among them, lottery sales in Guangdong, Hunan, Hebei and Xinjiang provinces all saw a significant increase.

China's Ministry of Finance announced on its official website on Tuesday (June 4, 2024) that in April, China sold 55.457 billion yuan in lottery tickets, an increase of 5.131 billion yuan, or 10.2%, year-on-year. Compared with the same period last year, lottery sales in all provinces except Hubei and Tianjin increased, with Guangdong, Hunan, Hebei and Xinjiang seeing the largest increases, up 550 million yuan, 390 million yuan, 380 million yuan and 330 million yuan year-on-year respectively.

According to a senior analyst at Eurasia Group, people are turning to activities such as lottery to seek wealth and success, most likely because of the increasing pressure on the economic environment and job market.
