According to AFP, on July 8, 2024 local time, BYD and the Turkish government signed an agreement to invest and build a factory in Turkey, and Turkish President Erdogan attended the signing ceremony.

According to the agreement, BYD will invest about $1 billion to build a factory and R&D center with an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The factory is scheduled to start production at the end of 2026 and will provide jobs for up to 5,000 workers.

It is reported that under the "Customs Union" established in 1995, Turkish-made cars enjoy preferential treatment in entering the European Union, and the Marmara region around Istanbul has become one of the main manufacturing centers of the world's automotive industry. In addition, the land in Manisa, north of Izmir, previously allocated to Volkswagen, will be transferred to BYD for use.
