Ma Huateng, co-founder of Chinese tech giant Tencent, has regained his spot as China's richest man.

According to Bloomberg, weak economic data from mainland China led to lower stocks of some mainland companies listed in Hong Kong on Monday (September 16, 2024). According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, as of 2:23 p.m. on Monday, Ma Huateng surpassed Zhong Shanshan, the founder of beverage company Nongfu Spring, with a net worth of $43.9 billion. Zhong Shanshan fell to third place, and Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance, ranked second.

As the gaming industry recovers in China, Tencent's performance has surpassed its competitors, and Ma Huateng's wealth has continued to expand recently. The success of Tencent's games from "Dungeon & Fighter: Origin" to "Black Myth: Wukong", coupled with Beijing's promise of support, has driven Tencent's stock price to continue to climb.
