Parents at a school in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, China reported that the school was distributing expired and moldy bread. When asked, local officials said that a case has been opened for investigation.

According to CCTV News, parents of primary and secondary school students in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province reported that the bread in the meals distributed to their children on Wednesday (September 25, 2024) was moldy. Many parents said that the bread was distributed because the school carried out after-school extended services.

It is understood that seven schools including Kunshan No. 2 Middle School, Gejiang Middle School, and Kunshan Experimental Primary School received 16,505 loaves of bread distributed by Kunshan Hongsheng Agricultural and Sideline Products Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hongsheng Company) on Wednesday. Gejiang Middle School found that the bread was moldy during the distribution process at around 3 pm that day. After that, many schools also found similar situations.

In response to inquiries about the matter on Friday (September 27), a staff member of the Kunshan Municipal Education Bureau said that the Education Bureau had intervened on the day of the incident, and the school involved stopped the supply of meals at the first time. The incident is still under investigation and processing, and the subsequent progress and arrangements will be informed to parents. A staff member of the Kunshan Municipal Market Supervision Administration said that a case has been filed for investigation, and the city has also set up a special working group, and the results will be announced in a timely manner.
