China’s Top Three Airlines Offer Free Refunds/Changes for China-Japan Flights
Following a diplomatic advisory issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Department of Consular Affairs on Friday, November 14, 2025, which cited "deteriorating bilateral exchanges" and urged Chinese citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Japan, China’s three major carriers—Air China (CA), China Southern Airlines (CZ), and China Eastern Airlines (MU)—announced policies on Saturday, November 15, 2025, allowing free refunds or changes for passenger tickets on Japan routes.
All three airlines specified that eligible tickets must have departure dates between November 15 and December 31, 2025.
Air China (CA): Applies to unused tickets involving CA-operated or code-sharing flights to/from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sendai, Hiroshima, Sapporo, or Okinawa.
China Southern (CZ): No specific routing restrictions beyond the date range.
China Eastern (MU): Requires at least one unused flight segment involving Japan (including but not limited to arrival, departure, or transit through Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Sapporo, Komatsu, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Niigata, Okayama, Fukuoka, Shizuoka, Nagoya, Matsuyama, Okinawa, Toyama, or Kumamoto) on MU, Shanghai Airlines, or other carriers.
