China's first independently developed and built Type 076 amphibious assault ship, the Sichuan, also known as an "unmanned aerial vehicle carrier," completed its first sea trial mission on Sunday.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the Sichuan ship returned successfully to the shipyard dock around 5 p.m. on Sunday (November 16, 2025) after completing its three-day first sea trial mission.

The report stated that during the trial, a series of tests were conducted on the ship's power, electrical systems, and other equipment, achieving the expected results. Subsequent test projects will be carried out gradually in accordance with the overall equipment construction plan.

The Sichuan ship, with the hull number "51," has a full load displacement of over 40,000 tons. It features a dual-island superstructure and a full-length flight deck (also known as a straight deck), innovatively applying electromagnetic catapult and arresting technologies. It can carry fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, amphibious equipment, and more.
