Xinjiang's Cotton Output Surpasses 60 Million Tons for First Time in 2025
On December 26, 2025, China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released its annual cotton production report. The data shows that Xinjiang, the country's leading cotton-producing region, achieved a historic milestone with its cotton output exceeding 60 million tons for the first time, reaching a total of 6.165 million tons. This figure accounts for 92.8% of the nation's total cotton production.
According to the NBS report, the cotton sowing area in Xinjiang was 25.916 million mu (approximately 1.727 million hectares). The yield of ginned cotton per mu stood at 158.6 kilograms, reflecting a slight increase from the previous year and surpassing the national average yield by 10 kilograms per mu.
