2025 Marks Hottest Year on Record for China
According to China Central Television (CCTV), 2025 saw China's national average temperature reach 11.0°C. This figure is 1.1°C higher than the country's perennial average of 9.9°C, surpassing the previous record of 10.9°C set in 2024. Consequently, 2025 now stands as the hottest year on record in China since 1961.
The vast majority of regions across the country experienced temperatures more than 0.5°C above their respective local averages. Notably, 16 provincial-level regions—Xinjiang, Liaoning, Hebei, Jiangxi, Hubei, Shandong, Tianjin, Tibet, Hunan, Henan, Jilin, Shanghai, Shaanxi, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu—recorded their highest temperatures since 1961.
