2,356 Minors Convicted of Serious Violent Crimes Sentenced to Over Five Years in Prison in 2025
According to a report by CCTV News, the work report of the Supreme People’s Court of China revealed that in 2025, courts sentenced 2,356 minors involved in serious violent crimes to prison terms exceeding five years.
The report stated that Chinese courts concluded 40,000 cases involving crimes against minors in 2025, affecting 44,000 individuals—a 1.8% year-on-year decline in case volume. Additionally, 1,199 offenders were barred from occupations involving close contact with minors, and the death penalty was lawfully imposed on criminals who committed extremely serious offenses involving severe abuse of minors.
The report also highlighted strengthened efforts in preventing and governing juvenile delinquency. Upholding the principle of balancing leniency with severity and integrating punishment with education, courts sentenced 2,356 minors involved in serious violent crimes to more than five years in prison, while granting lenient punishment to 5,822 minors convicted of minor offenses.
