According to data released by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), China's national average temperature for 2025 was 10.9 degrees Celsius, tying with 2024 as the highest on record. Notably, the number of high-temperature days reached a historical peak. The country's average annual temperature has been on a sustained upward trend in recent decades, making 2025 the hottest year since national meteorological records began in 1961. The increased frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and extreme heat events have elevated risks from natural disasters such as floods.

The data indicates that from late June to early September 2025, a large-scale and persistent heatwave affected central and eastern China. The national average precipitation was 4.5% above the perennial average. Specifically, both the amount and duration of rainfall during the rainy season in North China ranked first in historical records, while the autumn rainfall in West China was the heaviest ever recorded.
