Fujian Quanzhou Coast Guard seized a major illegal fishing case
At about 11:00 a.m. on May 17, 2024, law enforcement officers from the Quanzhou Maritime Police Bureau in Fujian Province, China, were patrolling in the waters near Xiaoqi when a fishing boat that had left the port before the summer fishing moratorium came into the officers' sight. The officers then boarded the ship for inspection. Upon investigation, it was found that the ship's cabin was carrying a large amount of freshly caught fish and a large trawl net was hidden. Captain Huang was unable to explain the source of the catch and was suspected of engaging in illegal fishing during the summer fishing moratorium. Law enforcement officers seized the ship involved in accordance with the law, seized about 49,800 kilograms of various types of catch, and arrested three people involved in the case.
According to reports, with the cooperation of the local fishery department, law enforcement officers from the Quanzhou Maritime Police Bureau measured the mesh of the trawl net of the ship involved and counted and classified the catch involved, including tuna and other valuable fish.
