Seoul National University in South Korea has decided to block the Chinese artificial intelligence DeepSeek large model platform.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the school's information technology headquarters banned users from using the campus wired network to access the DeepSeek platform from 9 a.m. on Thursday (February 13, 2025). According to the South Korean government's policy, the school will first take measures to block the DeepSeek platform until its personal information protection and other security are confirmed. Use of DeepSeek for academic research or education purposes requires advance application.

It is understood that after DeepSeek became popular, the number of Korean users exceeded 1.2 million last month, second only to ChatGPT in South Korea. South Korea's data regulator asked DeepSeek on January 31 to explain how to manage user information. South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and other government departments blocked DeepSeek earlier this month.
