A Taiwanese tourist was hit and killed at a railway crossing in Saga, Japan
According to Kyodo News, a 55-year-old Taiwanese female tourist was struck by a train at a JR Sasebo Line crossing at Toyama Shrine in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture, Japan, at noon on Tuesday (August 13, 2025). She was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.
Kyushu Railway Company stated that the incident occurred at the top of the stairs leading to the shrine, where the crossing has warning lights but no railings.
Police stated that the tourist may have been filming a video with her mobile phone at the crossing. Saga Prefectural Police and the Transport Safety Commission are conducting a detailed investigation into the accident.
A similar incident occurred earlier this year: a Hong Kong tourist in his 60s was struck and killed by an oncoming train on January 23rd while taking photos on a track in Otaru City, Hokkaido, Japan.
