On the evening of October 24, 2025, a Porsche new energy vehicle (NEV) caught fire in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China, while driving and without a collision. The vehicle was engulfed in flames, leaving only its frame. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Porsche staff stated that they are aware of the incident and are cooperating with fire authorities in the investigation. According to preliminary information, the vehicle was not involved in a collision, and the specific cause of the fire is pending professional identification. In 2023, Porsche recalled certain Taycan models globally, including in China, due to battery sealing issues.

According to data released by the China National Fire and Rescue Administration for the first quarter of 2022, the fire incidence rate for NEVs was 2.88 per 10,000 vehicles, while the fire incidence rate for gasoline vehicles was 2 per 10,000 vehicles. While the probability of fire in NEVs is similar to that in traditional gasoline vehicles, the fire risk warrants special attention, as the intensity of a fire in NEVs is far greater than that of traditional gasoline vehicles.
